A cordless table lamp doesn't just remove a cable. It removes the question of where the nearest outlet is, which turns out to change more than you'd expect.
Built out of a real frustration
The Portable version came out of years of bad outdoor lighting at caravan trips. Evening dinners set up outside, warm nights, and every rechargeable table lamp on hand gave off a flat, harsh light that barely lasted a few hours before dying. So when we built our own, the priorities were specific: soft, good-quality light, a battery that actually lasts, Type-C charging because every other charger in your bag already is, and a touch dimmer simple enough to use without thinking about it. Since it needed to survive outdoor use as a true outdoor portable lamp, it carries an IP20 rating too.
Where it ends up, without planning to
Once the prototype existed, it stopped staying in one place. It sat on the dinner table when wine got opened. It moved to a side table when friends stayed late. Some nights it became a bedside lamp, other nights a reading light, and more than once it just got carried from room to room during a conversation, without anyone deciding that's what would happen.
What actually changes
That's the real shift a cordless lamp makes. A plugged-in lamp asks you to build the evening around where it sits. A cordless one asks nothing, and ends up wherever the evening actually goes, dinner table, balcony for alfresco dining, a chair pulled closer for a conversation that's running long, or any outdoor dining setting.
Not tied to one spot
However you'd use it, the point is the same: the light moves with you instead of the other way around.
